fellinara: (Jedi Order)
It's been nearly a month since I have posted! So busy! Missed Dreamwidth however and now it is time for me to catch up.

I am still working on Fellinara's story. Daniel Horne was a bit complicated because he's a pretty prominent person at this point in her story so I bought a small moleskine - like notebook to jot down ideas and rough draft that part of her story. That is still working in progress so if you've been reading my previous posts on her story, please hang in there. More is coming! more on D&D stuff )

I've also started bullet journalling. I have used a standard yearly planner at my desk for several years now. I loved my Erin Condren one that I used a couple of years ago but those are super expensive. I've moved on to the Blue Sky ones that you pick up at Target but they really are just a calendar. While I jot down stuff a lot in them, I need more. All of the features of my E C planner didn't work for me totally either. So, I'm moving to bullet journal.

If you have never heard of using a Bullet Journal, it is a fully customizable journal/planner for you. You start with a blank journal (most folks use an A6 (think that refers to the size) Moleskine (brand) or Leuchtturm 1971 book (this is the most common) and you make your calendars, to do lists, etc to be what ever you want. You can doodle in it, use washi tape, stickers, etc. There is not much rhyme or reason except that it has to work for you. You have Calendar future spreads, weekly at a glance spreads and "collections". Collections are things you want to jot down or track somehow. For example, a collection might be a "Brain dump" page or a brainstorming ideas page. Another be an exercise tracker. Another might be a graph for tracking your sleep and/or moods. Another is a meal planning tracker.....you get the idea. There are a ton of YouTube videos on the topic that I found amazing. I'm currently using a small notebook as a trial bullet journal so I can take August and figure out what I want in my journal. Then I'm going to treat myself to a Leuchtturm 1971 to set it up for the rest of my year. This will be more personal and take up less space on my desk so it's a win all the way. I also get to work on my handwriting skills. Another 50 points for Griffindor!!!! :)

Do any of you bullet journal? How do you like it? What are some of your favorite collections?

Things have been so busy since I came back from vacation. Back to work, my wee girl had a sleep over, husband getting back to work, etc. I'll be picking up with Fel's story soon though. Her meeting with Daniel will be an interesting one, I think.

Happy Father's Day to the great dads and dads to be that I know.

I have finally put chapter 3 of Fellinara's story up on my journal. I don't know when I'll get to chapter 4. I am bringing my laptop with me on vacation so I may put it up while I'm away. If not, I'll post chapter 4 by the end of next week. I really hope you are enjoying it. I'm enjoying telling her tale.

In my free time at the temple I would often go to the Marketplace in Waterdeep and watch people hawk their wares of breads, cheeses, fabrics, woodcrafts, smithwork, etc. There were also the occasional pick pockets and tricksters on the prowl and I'd watch them very carefully. I learned how to pick a pocket with my mark non the wiser and how to fool a tourist at the shell game. I earned almost coin sharking people at that than I did picking the pockets of some drunk tavern patron attempting to shamble home after an after deep in his cups. The Sisters at the Temple I think knew what I was doing in retrospect but at the time I thought I was pulling one over on even them. I had a place to sleep and a meal in my belly everyday thanks to Tymora's priestesses so I'd put some of my hard earned stolen coin in the coffers before bed. I'd stash the rest under my thin mattress for new bow string or to replace / repair some broken arrows, and new clothes.

OH how I do love new clothes. Nothing feels quite as good as new soft as butter leather armor fitting close to your body, hugging every curve like an experienced lover...ahem...I digress. (sigh)

One day was working a mark at the shell game and had taken most of his money (a good bit of it when he wasn't looking at me) when Sister Graelle was walking by with a very important looking sorcerer. He'd been to the temple many times to talk to her so I was familiar with his face and never really cared to know his name. They were deep in conversation so I followed them. Listening in, I learned that the Sister was moving to Phandalin, a newly settled mining town located south of Neverwinter to set up a new Temple to Tymora. Graelle was one of my favorite Sisters and I was going to miss her. She was the one who, 7 years ago now, took one look at my 8 year old self and said that Tymora herself brought me to her. She sat me down by a fire, fed me an meal and gave me the few rules the orphans followed in order to stay. She reminded me a little of my mother and so I stayed.

Keeping close behind them I noticed that the prominent sorcerer had a very large and full coin purse on his belt. Pulling the hood of my new cloak up to hide my face and borrowing a walking stick from a nearby merchant who had a bad knee, I hobbled up to them like an elderly person with poor eyesight. Bumping into him, I nimbly lifted his purse while muttering an "sorry,so sorry, Mi'Lord. Me eyes aren't what they used to be" before hobbling off as quickly as my guise would allow. Ducking around a corner, I dropped the walking stick and opened the coin purse to see what I'd earned. It was full of useless rocks! Swearing profusely, I'd been had. He'd marked me as well as I had marked him. I felt like such a damn fool. Threw the purse down and made my way back to the Temple, not wanting to challenge any more marks that day.

I was sitting in the main area of the temple sharpening one of my daggers when Graelle came in. While she was put out that I made one of her colleagues a mark, they had both been impressed by my ability to pull off that fast disguise and to lift his purse so easily. So impressed that Graelle told me to report to Daniel Horne at the Cask and Brew Tavern the next day to discuss a possible opportunity.

I wasn't feeling well yesterday. Didn't eat until 1pm and for a diabetic, that's sort of a no no. SO I felt pretty horrible. Chapter 3 didn't go up and I have D&D tonight (the module I'm running as DM), so it will not likely go up until Saturday evening. Sorry for anyone waiting on the next piece of her story. It will be coming!

So excited about tonight. E will be coming in via Google Hangout and I hope to have Kink and her girls at the table tonight.

With vacation looming near, we've been busy prepping. We haven't been on a family vacation since my kiddo was 2 and she's 9 now so we had to buy some stuff. Beach vacation to Tybee Island!!! WHOOOT!

I need to put Fel's next chapter up. My husband had me read the story so far to him while he got us some wine and made a cheese plate before we started gaming. We table top game a lot in my house. We played the best game of Ascenion I think we've ever played. He also really, really liked my character's story.

Chapter 3 will go up by tonight sometime. Can't wait!

Welcome!!!

I love storytelling but if I became a novelist, I don't think I'd love it as much. If it became work I would get writer's block with a vengeance. I also may be finding writing a backstory for some of my D&D characters easy because they are characters that I'd want to read about. Characters I would want to know more about. These are characters from my imagination that just need their story to breathe life into them. As I create their story, they really become living, breathing people who laugh, love, hurt, etc. I can see why some of my novelist friends see the finishing of a book they are writing equal to giving birth to a child. I really understand now.

*edit - more of Fel's story will be either added tonight or tomorrow. :)I hope you enjoy her as much as I do.

So, I packed up my few belongings, my father's daggers and his short bow and set off to the city. I really thought I would find a way to make my fortune and take care of myself on my own. At 8 years old, you think you are untouchable. OH how wrong I was. By Tymora's own luck )

*here is the next chapter in Fel's story. Enjoy!

To be a Half-Elf in Faerun is to be half a person. My Elven people only see the Human and my Human people only see an Elf. My handsome, very Human father and my beautiful Moon-Elf mother chose exile for their love. If they had been thinking of anyone but themselves, they would given up their affair and each chosen a mate within their own race. But love can conquer all they said. So love was their choice. Then I was born and the honeymoon was over. They were young, in love, and thrilled to be parents. Never a thought to the kind of life I would have as a half-breed in Waterdeep, The City of Splendors. I know I sound bitter and hateful. I actually love both my parents. Society is what it is and I'm a pragmatic realist. I've heard that this trait comes from my maternal grandfather, whom I have never met. Yes, Shirnara's family shunned her and don't recognize me as family and I'm alright with that too. My mother was all the family I really needed. I barely remember my father. I get my black hair from him, I'm told. That, green eyes, and my fiery temper. I get my petite height (don't you dare call me short!) and pointed ears from my mother. on my own )

**ending her tale here for now as the post is getting long. I'll post about what happened to her in Waterdeep very soon. I'm on a bit of a roll now. Hahaha no pun intended.

I had a majorly wonderful weekend. Friday started out shaky due to some work challenges. Days like that I miss being in a outside office but it all turned out fine because we have a great crew. Gaming that night with friends was definitely a welcome retreat. I knew it would feel good to get lost in a highly narrative game. As it turned out Kinkerbelle and her daughters and I got our wires crossed so they made other plans. Normally that would have bummed me out but E showed anyhow. Since he travels the farthest to make the game, I didn't want to disappoint him so I made a quick choice to play their 3 characters, the NPC character heavily involved in the party, and DM the game as well. It would prove to be a full plate but I had my DM screen set up, my dice ready, my notes ready, and we were set. my d&d weekend )

Yep. This was the best weekend ever.
