D&D and Bullet Journalling

It's been nearly a month since I have posted! So busy! Missed Dreamwidth however and now it is time for me to catch up.
I am still working on Fellinara's story. Daniel Horne was a bit complicated because he's a pretty prominent person at this point in her story so I bought a small moleskine - like notebook to jot down ideas and rough draft that part of her story. That is still working in progress so if you've been reading my previous posts on her story, please hang in there. More is coming!
In other D&D related topics, I'm really enjoying my Roll20.net group and playing Fellinara. She develops more each week making it easier to tell her tale. As I bring her up to current activities, I'll be posting more on a weekly basis with what we are doing when we play. She's really getting close to the other adventurers she's traveling with and is forging some lasting friendships, which is something kind of new to her being more of a loner.
Our Friday group finally settled on a name for their party. I think it was kind of a joke but it sort of stuck. :) Our halfling rogue, Kizzy, comes from a folk hero background. Well, she thinks so anyhow. She's sort of got a folk hero complex. Also, her BFF is a Dragonborn Monk and they value honor above all else. She sees Craven as her big brother from another mother and looks up to him both figuratively and literally. So the party are now known as Kizzy's Crew. I like it. Joining the party this week a lovely and young Tiefling fighter training to be an Eldritch Knight named Luna. Luna is good with both her sword and her whip. She's very young (late teens) but left home about a year or so ago, earning her place among the Zhentarim. Though currently in their lowest ranks, she helped Kizzy's Crew take down a bugbear who had proclaimed himself King of the Cragmaw, earning her some renown in her faction. Impressed by her initiative, she has been given some leash and is allowed to adventure on her own. She has rejoined Kizzy's Crew for the time being finding a place among this band of misfits. I may make a whole separate post introducing Kizzy's Crew. Comment if you want to see that and I'll do it.
Sometime this fall my niece, Sie, will be hosting a mini game day through her school (I think through her school...she is going into high school this year). She wants to introduce tabletop RPG and D&D will be a big part of it. I'm prepping for an encounter (getting ready to play test it out) and I'll be using some characters that I have premade. I'm going to give tips and tricks on making your own character but because this is time consuming, we will go along with some characters that I have created stats for. Basically a character sheet will be made and I'm going pass those out when folks come in but we'll spend a minute giving a brief elevator pitch on the person (what they are like, what motivates them, etc). This will get the students to consider certain key points in creating a character on their own that they can really get involved with and enjoy playing later on. Moving along, I plan on taking the groups through a dungeon crawl and (hope to) have them emerge victorious.
I'd like to also hopefully take some time working with those who want to DM and give them some tips and tricks that have helped me as a fledgling DM. I may not have that much time so if that is the case, I'll point them towards my resources and stuff that I found helpful. Yeah, I'll be making handouts. It's going to be so much fun! If this works out with Sie's group, I may look into doing something like this for my area middle and high schools who may have a gamers club or be interested in starting a gamers club.
I've also started bullet journalling. I have used a standard yearly planner at my desk for several years now. I loved my Erin Condren one that I used a couple of years ago but those are super expensive. I've moved on to the Blue Sky ones that you pick up at Target but they really are just a calendar. While I jot down stuff a lot in them, I need more. All of the features of my E C planner didn't work for me totally either. So, I'm moving to bullet journal.
If you have never heard of using a Bullet Journal, it is a fully customizable journal/planner for you. You start with a blank journal (most folks use an A6 (think that refers to the size) Moleskine (brand) or Leuchtturm 1971 book (this is the most common) and you make your calendars, to do lists, etc to be what ever you want. You can doodle in it, use washi tape, stickers, etc. There is not much rhyme or reason except that it has to work for you. You have Calendar future spreads, weekly at a glance spreads and "collections". Collections are things you want to jot down or track somehow. For example, a collection might be a "Brain dump" page or a brainstorming ideas page. Another be an exercise tracker. Another might be a graph for tracking your sleep and/or moods. Another is a meal planning tracker.....you get the idea. There are a ton of YouTube videos on the topic that I found amazing. I'm currently using a small notebook as a trial bullet journal so I can take August and figure out what I want in my journal. Then I'm going to treat myself to a Leuchtturm 1971 to set it up for the rest of my year. This will be more personal and take up less space on my desk so it's a win all the way. I also get to work on my handwriting skills. Another 50 points for Griffindor!!!! :)
Do any of you bullet journal? How do you like it? What are some of your favorite collections?
